About us

WHO WE ARE — AND WHY THIS EXISTS

A Personal Beginning

Vilt Hjerte Camp Burgbacher began long before it became a camp.
For me — Melly — the connection to whales has been there
for as long as I can remember.
Not only as a fascination.
As a part of my soul.
A quiet, steady pull toward these animals —
their intelligence, their calm, their way of being in the world.

When I am with whales, I don’t feel excitement first,
I feel humility.

Every encounter with whales reminds us
that meaningful experiences do not come from taking —
but from allowing.

A deep respect for beings who are older in wisdom, more present in their bodies,
and far less driven by noise than we are.

Not a Business Decision -  Not Driven by Profit

This work is not driven by money. It never was, it never will be.
If money were the driving force, this place would look very different.

It would be bigger. Faster. Louder.  It would carry more people.

Instead, Vilt Hjerte Winterwhales Camp exists out of deep conviction,

because something inside me would not allow it to be done any other way.
Every encounter with whales reminds me how little we need to take, and how much we can receive — simply by being silent.

The Feeling I Want to Share

What I want our guests to experience cannot be manufactured.
It is the feeling that rises when you realise you are witnessing life without disturbing it.
The moment when awe replaces expectation. When gratitude comes before desire.
When the heart becomes quiet.
That is the feeling I have carried with me for years.
And it is the reason Vilt Hjerte Winterwhale Camp exists.

The Feeling Behind Everything We Do:
What we offer cannot be staged. It is the feeling of witnessing life
without interfering with it.
The moment when awe replaces expectation.
When gratitude comes before desire.
When the heart becomes quiet.
It is not about seeing whales - It is about meeting them.

Why We Refuse Mass Tourism

Whales are not here for schedules - Not for profit margins - Not for human pressure.
Encounters in which whales remain untouched, unpressured, fully themselves.
Encounters that leave humans changed — not the animals.

Whales do not exist for our schedules. Or our profit margins. Or our need to collect moments. I do not believe in mass tourism where speed and volume come before respect.

I believe in encounters — real ones.

Encounters where the animals remain untouched, unpressured, fully themselves.
Encounters where humans leave different than they arrived.
An Unextinguishable Fire
There is a fire in me that does not burn loudly. It burns steadily.
A commitment to protect space. To honour intelligence beyond our own.
To choose restraint even when temptation is strong.
That fire is what guides every decision at Vilt Hjerte Winter Whales Camp.
And it is the reason this place will remain small, quiet, and deeply respectful.

This Is What We Stand For

We don’t do this because whales are beautiful.
We do this because they deserve reverence.
And because the world needs places where profit does not speak louder
than conscience.

If this resonates with you, you already understand
what Vilt Hjerte Winterwhales Camp is protecting.
